The Faculty of Dental Trainers (FDT) is developing courses for Dental Trainers. Associates, Members and Fellows of FDT are entitled to 10% discount on RCSEd courses - Forthcoming courses are listed below.
It is well accepted that most clinical mistakes in dentistry and surgery are due to human error. It is often not the technical ability that lets the clinician down, but the non-technical skills needed for situation awareness, decision making, teamworking, communication and task management. How can learning about these skills improve performance? Can you recognise and manage stress when working? How can good non-technical skills optimise good clinical outcomes and patient safety?
You can now book your place for the DeNTS Masterclass HERE.
Elevate the effectiveness of your dental team and dental trainees by teaching them the non-technical cognitive and social skills that underpin individual and team performance. Learn how assessing non-technical skills can support and develop the ability to deliver best practice and safe patient care.

"I was never taught about the relevance of good non-technical skills for delivering better clinical outcomes and safer patient care. Understanding how situation awareness, decision making, communication, task management, teamworking and managing stress can impact on clinical performance transforms how you work. DeNTS allows dentists and trainees to reflect upon and develop their non-technical skills in a safe environment." - Dr Sarah Manton, FDT Director
This course is designed to meet the day-to-day needs of clinical trainers and educators in the UK, and looks to build on the success of the previous Training the Trainers courses. Much is expected of trainers; they must coach, mentor, assess, monitor, supervise, design educational activities, and model good practice with many pressures competing for their time.
Underpinned with educational principles, theory and evidence but with a strong emphasis on the practical this course aims to equip trainers with the tools they need to fulfill their obligations and evidence their activity. Delivered by clinicians for clinicians with educationalist support, the emphasis of this course is on practical solutions for time pressured trainers.
This course is for professionals with roles involving clinical training and those aspiring to become clinical trainers.
This course is held in both RCSEd, Edinburgh and Birmingham. For full information, dates and to book, please click here for details or email education@rcsed.ac.uk
